Find a Texas DWI Lawyer

The Texas penal code states that "A person commits an offense if the person is intoxicated while operating a motor vehicle in a public place." The term "intoxication" can mean one of two things. The first is having impaired use of mental or physical faculties (because of alcohol or any other substance--even prescribed medicine). The second is having a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of 0.08 or more. Also, according to Texas law, it is illegal for anyone under 21 to drive if there is any detectable amount of alcohol in the blood (zero tolerance). Either offense can result in a charge of DWI (Driving While Intoxicated), sometimes called DUI for Driving while Under the Influence.

.After a DWI/DUI charge, you will lose your right to drive unless you request a hearing within 15 days of ticketing. It is likely that you will be granted a temporary license for use until the actual hearing (if your license was valid at the time you were ticketed).

An experienced Texas DWIattorney can help you as you take every action that is needed in order for you to work with the justice system. Even before you request your hearing, he or she can advise you if there is anything further you need to know, for example should you request that a ticketing officer appear at your hearing.

In Texas, A DWI conviction will stay on your driving record for good. Not only is a DWI conviction expensive because of fees and surcharges (a minimum of $1,000 a year for 3 years); it is also likely that it will result in your auto insurance rate being at least quadrupled. It could even result in jail time.
